Festival International - What to Expect
April 15, 2015
Festival International de Louisiane is Lafayette, Louisiana’s largest festival that brings thousands of locals and visitors together for a huge 5 day festival with lots of music, arts, food, and fun. The best part of Festival International is that it is FREE!
As a proud Lafayette local, I am very familiar with the downtown area, where the festival is held. If you are a visitor, never hesitate to ask for directions! Locals are often very friendly and eager to help someone navigate the festival. With multiple stages and performances taking place at all times throughout the five day festival, it is impossible to see everything. As a local and yearly Festival International attendee, I can tell you what you will most likely experience though.
The best way to get to the festival is to park at Cajun Field and ride the free shuttle that runs every 15 minutes.
Once you arrive on the festival grounds, I hope you like crowds because you will see a multitude of people enjoying themselves, and you will be joining them. If you don’t like crowds, there’s plenty of room on the outskirts where you can still hear the music, but have a little more elbow room. Feel free to DANCE anywhere you like!
As you navigate the grounds you may see different types of street performers like belly dancers, hula hoopers, and African drummers.
There are also parades through the streets that take place periodically throughout the festival days.
Vendors from all over the world are lined up with their arts, crafts, and unique merchandise on display for you to browse, admire, and purchase.
There will also be lots of local food booths there to help you experience all kinds of flavors.
With 8 stages, there will be many musicians and bands you may or may not have ever heard of, but are worth experiencing either way.
Festival International is able to stay free when attendees purchase festival pins and merchandise. This year, something new, you are able to purchase VIP passes designed to make your festival visit more comfortable and convenient.
Volunteers are also a huge backbone to making the festival possible. Anyone can volunteer and it is a great way to experience the festival (and get a free t-shirt!)
Festival International de Louisiane is a family oriented event that strives to enrich the community with its native cultures and expand Louisiana’s reputation as a center for performing arts.
